Test Types
The test type is determined by the casting application, specification requirements, and customer drawing notes.
Full casting body pressurized to verify pressure boundary integrity of the casting shell — primary test for valve bodies and pressure vessels.
Valve seat integrity test — low-pressure gas or high-pressure water test of the seating surfaces to verify sealing performance.
Low-pressure pneumatic or hydraulic leak detection test — used where a full hydrostatic shell test would overstress a thin-wall casting.
Why Ironbound
Hydrostatic pressure testing performed at our Newark foundry — no outside test lab required. Testing is scheduled as part of the machining and inspection sequence before shipping.
Testing applies to valve bodies, pump housings, pipe fittings, manifolds, and any casting that forms a pressure boundary in service — bronze, aluminum, nickel, Monel, and stainless.
Test pressure, hold time, and acceptance criteria are set by customer drawing or referenced standard — ASME, MSS, MIL-SPEC, or customer-defined. We test to your requirement.
Test report including test pressure, hold time, date, acceptance status, and operator signature furnished with every casting. Records retained for traceability.
