Pattern Shop at Ironbound Castings

Our pattern shop is the foundation of our casting quality. Every pattern built at Ironbound is designed with gating, risering, and solidification in mind — not just the geometry. Our patternmakers work directly with the foundry floor, so the tooling is built right the first time.

We maintain a full library of customer patterns in our temperature-controlled storage facility. When you re-order, your tooling is ready to run — no re-tooling cost, no lead time impact. Engineering changes are incorporated quickly with full revision documentation.

Pattern Library

All customer patterns stored and maintained in-house — no re-tooling on return orders

Tooling Types

Pattern & Tooling Types

We select the appropriate pattern material and construction based on alloy requirements, production volume, and part complexity.

Wood Patterns

Traditional hardwood patterns for prototype and short-run work. Low cost and fast lead times for initial runs and design verification.

ApplicationsPrototype castings, first articles, low-volume runs
Most Common

Resin & Urethane Patterns

High-durability resin patterns for production runs requiring tight dimensional stability and long tooling life without the weight and cost of metal.

ApplicationsProduction runs, complex geometry, longer-life tooling

Match Plate Patterns

Mounted cope and drag patterns on a common plate for machine-assisted green sand molding — maximum productivity for repeat production quantities.

ApplicationsHigh-volume green sand, machine-assist molding

Core Boxes

Split and solid core boxes for sand cores — internal passages, blind holes, undercuts, and complex internal geometries that cannot be drawn from the mold.

ApplicationsInternal passages, valve bodies, pump housings, complex geometry

Why Ironbound

Pattern Shop Advantages

In-House Pattern Shop

Full-service pattern shop with experienced patternmakers on-site. Wood, resin, metal, and match plate patterns built and maintained under one roof — no outside vendors, no delays.

Full Tooling Range

Cope & drag, match plate, core boxes, gating systems, and riser sleeves — we design and build every component of the tooling package for your casting.

Pattern Library & Storage

All customer patterns are stored in our temperature-controlled pattern library. Return orders run from existing tooling — no re-tooling cost or lead time.

Engineering Support

Our foundry engineers review every pattern for riser sizing, gating design, solidification, and dimensional allowances before a single board is cut.
